Lampshade guide

When to buy a new lamp, or part of a lamp;  table lamp or a lampshade, it can sometimes be difficult to know what to choose and what to think about.

It can be especially difficult if you're buying a single part to complement some already have at home, such as purchasing a Lampshade that fits into a lamp base.

In this lampskärmsguiden you will learn the basics to get a Lampshade to fit together, in respect of: size, color, shape and monitor mounts.

Choice of size of lamp and Lampshade

The size of the shade is always in relation to the rest of the lampkonstruktionen. A common rule to assume is that the widest part of the shade should be approximately twice as wide as the base of the foot, and lampskärmens height should be approximately one-third of the height of the "shaft", on foot.

Another aspect to take into account when choosing lampskärmsstorlek is how large the space and the surface is where the light will be. Space should always have at least the same diameter as the Lampshade has at its widest point. The reason for this is that light should be stable and not end up warping due to, for example, a wall in the way.

Choice of color of the Lampshade

What color to choose for the Lampshade can for example be based on what colors they like, what color the foot has and what colors are the light will be, such as walls, furniture and other interior details. Some tend to prefer to have a uniform colour scheme, where they assume some basic colors and shades of these – while others like to have more individual color schemes in the Interior.

In some cases the Lampshade and the foot of the same color, and in other cases, the colors differ. It is common that the foot is in white, silver, gold, brass, wood, or black. Lampshades come in a variety of colors and patterns; everything from striped, spotted and floral to animal pattern, solid or sicksackat.

The choice of the form of the Lampshade

When you decide what shape you want on the Lampshade should also ask themselves what form you want on foot. This is because these two forms often linked, but it is so clear that match free if you want it!

Traditionally, it is customary to say that the shape of the foot and the Lampshade should be identical. For example, if the foot is round should also be about the Lampshade and the foot is more angular, there should also be a Lampshade longer foot is often combined with a higher lamp shade, and a broader base fits into a broader shade. However, it can be exciting to try mixing different styles in different parts of the lamp in order to get a unique lamp, with unexpected colors and shapes!

If you want a contemporary style on their lamp, for example, try straight lampshades made of materials like silk, linen or paper. It can often fit very well to the new lamp bases, like more traditional ones.

To a base which has adornments and the various forms it may be a good fit with a lighter shade, and a simple or straight base can often be combined with a Lampshade that has more details. This is because it works contrasting while creating a balance, and works both in highlighting that concealment. When you look at a lamp, it is often part of the focus on, and for that reason you may want to highlight the part of the lamp that you want to focus on.

Monitor mounts

Klofäste , also known as glödlampsfäste, is a stronghold where the Lampshade attached with a metal clip directly on the bulb. This mount is commonly used on smaller screens.

Bottom ring mount , also known as ring mount, consists of a bottom ring in metal that is bolted to the top of the "shaft" on foot. The bracket has a cavity itself, which means that the bulb can be put in the socket without any problems. The mount is common on larger screens, and bottom rings tend to always be there when you buy a new lamp base of this type.

Top ring mount consists of a metal bracket that is placed at the top of the shade, which is then fastened with a screw ring under the bulb, or attached by the bulb is inserted through the ring and screwed into the socket to hold the Lampshade in place. Top ring mount is available at, among other things, reading lights and lights where the screen is facing down.

Ceiling screens are designed to be fixed in a taksladd, and has state-of-the-ring mounts to hold the Lampshade with the help of the light bulb or a screw ring that is on the roof cable. Ceiling screens used for ceiling lights indoors, but there is now also the custom made ceiling screens for outdoor use, as these have the same bracket as mentioned earlier.

Floor screens have these bottom ring bracket affixed with one screw ring, and the bulb is inserted through the cavity of the bracket. Used for larger floor lamps or table lamps.
